Torture-Basement

Award winning use of UV paint by Trapped in Suburbia

For museum goudA we were asked to redesign the torture exhibition in their cellar. And so we started to think how to make it more exciting and get kids to read the little signs next to the torture equipment. We've decided to make it an experience by putting al the information on the floor with UV-paint. In this way you can only see something when you put on the UV-flash light otherwise it is just a white floor. So you really have to go exploring and discover new things. All the info on the floor is hand drawn, even the text.

More Is Always on the Way

I had the pleasure of seeing Bryon Boyce's "More is Always Better" last night at Southern Exposure Art Gallery. It is part of a large group show entitled and themed around the word "Boom!" I was amazed by the double entendres he was able to create by being at the right place at the right time, with the right specific perspective to shoot these amazing signage portraits. I recognized a few of the shots, as signs I had also seen around San Francisco, but the way the Boyce presents them in context with other signs, create a social commentary that I would have never imagined.

lipstick enigma

This computer-driven sentence-generator, using rules and lexicon written by the artist, invents and writes a new line of text, and displays it on the sign when triggered by a motion detector. The sentences mix the language of engineering with the language of beauty advertising.

Style Your Garage

As digital printing gets cheaper and more accessible, new innovative ideas on how to use it, keep popping up. This German company has take the idea seen on the back roll-up doors of cargo trucks, and applied it to the residential market. Now you can fantasize about having a gateway to paradise, or formula one race car in your very own garage, and make your neighbors look twice.

Lost in Penn Station, is the second part in a series of posts on Slate by Julia Turner on Wayfinding.

below is a video walk-thru of Penn Station with Wayfinding design expert David Gibson He is a founder of Two Twelve and the author of The Wayfinding Handbook.
