Clothing retailer H&M is selling stuff with an image that was stolen from Torey LaConsay

from the artists website:

H&M UK have purloined another artist's work. MINE! On the left, you'll see a sign I painted as a love letter to my neighbors in the East Atlanta Village. On the right, you will see a floormat and pillowcase featuring a design with an uncanny resemblance. In H&M's response, they claim that they can assure us that "this particular design has not been influenced by your friends work and that no copyright has been infringed." I beg to differ, H&M.

Rainforest Action Network activists took to the streets of San Francisco and turned every single one of Bank of America's Automated Teller Machines in the city into Automated Truth Machines. Using special non-adhesive stickers that were designed to look exactly like BoA's ATM interface, the activists gave the bank's customers a menu of what their money is being used for, including investment in coal-fired power plants, foreclosure on America's homes, bankrolling climate change, and paying out fat executive bonuses.

Seattle Burger King Billboard Gets Diabetes Graffiti

Someone has graffitied this Burger King billboard in downtown Seattle to transform it into criticism about how sugary fast food contributes to diabetes and the obesity crisis.

The original billboard does that classic advertising trick of getting away with making a joke while still promoting an idea that's not so great for you, which is to eat more deserts at Burger King.

The billboard shows an ice cream cone, a parfait, a milkshake and then a Burger King logo. Underneath the items in progression it says "side," "entree," and "drink." To modify it into a commentary, on the logo, the vandalizer drink a bloated person with a frowny face and x-ed out eyes. Below it they scrawled, "diabetes."

Award winning use of UV paint by Trapped in Suburbia

For museum goudA we were asked to redesign the torture exhibition in their cellar. And so we started to think how to make it more exciting and get kids to read the little signs next to the torture equipment. We've decided to make it an experience by putting al the information on the floor with UV-paint. In this way you can only see something when you put on the UV-flash light otherwise it is just a white floor. So you really have to go exploring and discover new things. All the info on the floor is hand drawn, even the text.

I had the pleasure of seeing Bryon Boyce's "More is Always Better" last night at Southern Exposure Art Gallery. It is part of a large group show entitled and themed around the word "Boom!" I was amazed by the double entendres he was able to create by being at the right place at the right time, with the right specific perspective to shoot these amazing signage portraits. I recognized a few of the shots, as signs I had also seen around San Francisco, but the way the Boyce presents them in context with other signs, create a social commentary that I would have never imagined.

This is a short film that was directed by the French animation collective H5, François Alaux, Hervé de Crécy + Ludovic Houplain. It was presented at the Cannes Film Festival 2009. It opened the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and won a 2010 academy award under the category of animated short.

In this film there are two pieces of licensed music, in the beginning and in the end. All the other music and sound design are original. The opening track (Dean Martin "Good Morning Life") and closing track (The Ink Spots "I don't want to send the world on fire") songs are licensed pre-existing tracks. I was suprised to see the Satire Lounge pop up in Google sketch-up when I did a search for signage. It's great place to treat your hangover with a Bloody Mary, while you wait for a table at Pete's kitchen two next door for sunday brunch, and they have a cool sign. You'll find it just a half block from the world famous Lion's Lair, on Colfax in Denver Colorado.

A major contributor to the visual anarchy is the ubiquity of signs, signals, billboards, and video displays, all competing with each other for attention. It is not surprising to find that signs appear with greater frequency in modern and contemporary photographs than in any other medium. Even before the Pop Art movement, they were admitted into the photographic frame as bold graphic elements.
